Announcing Our First Speakers (and a Public Call for Speakers)

Posted By Aaron on April 22nd, 2010

We’re still several months from WordCamp Portland 2010 (the event is on September 18-19), but I’m excited to announce we’ve already confirmed a few key speakers and that we’re opening the public call to fill the rest of our speaker lineup.

As we get closer to the event we’ll post more details but we have a few great speakers already planned:

  • Jane Wells (UX Lead for Automattic), will speak about “How WordPress Decisions Are Made” – a look at how choices are made about the direction and details of WordPress.
  • Food Carts Portland is a great resource for Portland’s awesome food cart scene. Brett “Dieselboi” Burmeister will speak about how food carts are using social media as part of (or their entire) marketing efforts.
  • Designer/developer Austin Passy of Frosty Web Designs will be talking about design and theming with WordPress – we’re still working out the exact angle on his talk, but expect something visually pleasing.
  • Photographer and Blogger Aaron Hockley of Social Photo Talk will present “Are You Cheating On Your Blog? Splitting Time Amongst Social Media Sites” – a look at how to mix and use various social media sites for your brand or identity.

We’re now actively looking for speakers to fill out the rest of our lineup. We’ll again have two full days of conference, meaning we’ll be selecting several more speakers. We might do something different this year… longer presentations should be 45 minutes, but we also might feature shorter 15 minute talks. Topics should revolve around WordPress and blogging (pretty much anything related is fair game). Themes, plugins, authoring, content, legal issues, RSS, voice, writing, database/server admin, you name it….

If you’d like to present at WordCamp Portland, please contact speaker coordinator Aaron Hockley via email (aaron@hockleyphoto.com). Let us know your topic, whether you think it would work best as a longer 45 minute presentation or a quicker 15 minute talk. A short bio/background/links to help us learn about you are also appreciated. We’ll solicit a bunch of ideas and then the organizers will make selections to fill out a well-rounded docket of presentations.

We Have Liftoff!

Posted By morganpdx on February 14th, 2010

Hello WordPress friends and blogging neighbors!  I (Morgan Senkal) am thrilled to take over the fabulous work that Aaron Hockley has done with WordCamp here in Portland.  My two goals for this event are:

  1. Make WordCamp Portland 2010 as fabulous as last year
  2. Make it even better, if that is even possible!

I decided that the very first thing I needed to do was select a date.  In keeping with goal #1, the date will be nearly the same as last year: September 18-19, 2010.  And already, the fabulous people over at WebTrends have offered to host us again as well.  WordCamp Portland is off to a great start!

I’ll have more details and information as things ramp up, so stay tuned.  If you have any ideas or questions, feel free to contact me at my email address or on twitter, either at the wordcamp account (@wcpdx) or @morganpdx.

Ask WordPress Questions to Matt Mullenweg at WordCamp Portland

Posted By Aaron on August 31st, 2009

We have a great addition to our lineup of presenters at WordCamp Portand; WordPress founding developer Matt Mullenweg will be here to lead a “Town Hall” style Q&A discussion about all things WordPress.

I’m sure the topics will go in a variety of directions once the ideas start flowing, but we’d love to have a few starter questions to kick things off. If you’ve got a question you’ve been dying to ask the man behind WordPress, leave it as a comment here. We’ll pick out a few to start the discussion (and anything that doesn’t get chosen is fair game to be asked from the audience).

Calling All Sponsors For WordCamPDX

Posted By dalechumbley on June 23rd, 2009

It’s getting about that time. Time to ramp up our efforts to secure sponsors for this years 2 day WordCamp Portland event! That’s right, not just one day but TWO days of pure WordPress magic. That means as a sponsor you actually get two days of love, thanks and appreciation from the 200-250+ attendees. In addition to the love and thanks we’ll properly link/logo you up on our site. We’ll also sing your praises on Twitter, Facebook and you may also swag us up during the event. After all, we do love swag.

What does it take to be a sponsor?

I’m glad you asked. Sponsorship can happen a number of ways. Of course, we’re most happy with plain old $$$ sponsors. After all, events like this don’t come together on their own. Sponsorship of the cash variety starts at $250. Then it steps up to $500 and $1,000. (Please contact us for what each level includes) Maybe you’d like to sponsor a specific item? Want to cover the tab for the morning coffee? Perhaps the t-shirts are more your style? Maybe you’d like to host lunch one of the days? We would be happy to work this out with you. Perhaps you have a service that makes sense for this type of event and you’d like to do an in-kind sponsorship. Shoot me a call at 360.260.3253 or email me.

When is WordCamp Portland?

WordCamp Portland is happening on September 19th & 20th, 2009 at WebTrends and will be attended by a wide variety of WordPress users and the tech community in and around the Portland area. I’d imagine we’ll also draw in travelers from outside the area as well. Being a sponsor is a great way to get your name and brand in front of all these people. Don’t delay on becoming a sponsor. The earlier you make it happen the earlier we can begin to sing your praise! Please get in touch with me with any questions or to sign up to be a sponsor!
