Lorelle VanFossen and the SEO Smackdown!

Posted By Aaron on August 11th, 2009

We only have a few seats left for WordCamp Portland… if you were thinking of waiting until the last minute, that time would be now. Go sign up. Then continue reading this post to see what else we’ll have for you.

Some other WordCamps have a talk on SEO, but that wouldn’t be good enough for Portland…. no, we have the SEO Smackdown panel!

We’ll have a couple SEO professionals who think that SEO is very important for every blogger (Scott Hendison and Amber Case), along with a couple bloggers who think that SEO is overrated (Dawn Foster and Rick Turoczy). Moderator Nate DiNiro will ask some pointed questions to our panel along with fielding responses from the audience.

Speaking of interesting speakers… WordPress guru Lorelle VanFossen will join us and present Tags and Categories: Are You Uncategorized? – a look at how tags and categories can be used to both aid blog readers and also drive and maintain traffic on your blog.

  1. Surely the smackdown can meet in the middle somewhere right? :) Like just doing simple SEO things such as using anchor text properly, and doing minor link building to your blog/individual post. Can’t wait to see who will come out victorious.

  2. Amber Case says:

Considering Dawn Foster is one of the top community managers in the world, I believe I may be swayed in her direction – but I’m going to take a completely different view and surprise you all. This is going to be a tough one.

  3. Kelly Guimont says:

I’d like to know how much SEO you can actually do for your site before you start looking like you’re trying to game the system to sell fake watches or little blue pills. There’s got to be a balancing point and I’m curious where that is.

Also, once you have made an SEO pass through your site, how much time do you have to spend on maintenance?
